How to draw parabola by eccentricity method

Draw Parabola by Focus Directrix Method

The Video shows the step by step method to draw a Parabola

Construct a parabola when the distance between the focus and the directrix is 40 mm. Draw tangent and normal at any point 'Q' on the curve.

Stage by stage method to draw Parabola

1. Draw vertical line AB ( directrix )

2. Draw a Horizontal line from the centre point C

3. Mark point F, 40 mm from point C

4. Mark  point V at centre of  the line CF

5. Mark points on the horizontal line at appriximately 10mm interval after the point V and mark it as 1,2,3,4,5,6......

6. Draw vertical lines through the points 1,2,3,4,5,6....

7. With C1 as radius and point F as centre, mark an arc on the vertical line 1 and on both sides of horizontal line. Mark these points as P1 and P2.

8. With C2 as radius and point F as centre, mark an arc on the vertical line 2 and on  both sides of horizontal line. Mark these points as P3 and P4

9. Continue the above for verical lines 3,4,5,6.....

10. Draw the ellipse by joining the points V, P1, P3, P5.......with smooth curve.

How to draw Involute of a circle

Draw Involute of a Circle of diameter 30 mm

The Video shows the step by step method to draw involute of a circle

Step by step method to draw involute of the circle

1.  Draw circle of diameter 30 mm

2.  Divide the circle into 12 equal sectors and mark it as 1,2.....12 in anticlockwise direction.

3.  Draw a horizontal line of length equal perimeter of the circle and from the point 12

4.  Divide the line into 12 equal parts and mark it as 1', 2'....... 12'

5.  Name the point 12 on line as P

6.  Draw line from point 1 at right angle to the sector line.

7.  Draw line from point 2 at right angle to the sector line

8   Repeat this procedure to draw perpendicular lines from all 11 points

9.  With P1' as radius and 1 as center, mark an arc on the perpendicular line 1. Mark this point as P1

10. With P2' as radius and 2 as center, mark an arc on the perpendicular line 2. Mark this point as P2

11. Repeat this procedure to mark all the points P1 to P11

12. Draw the involute curve by drawing smooth curve connecting the points from P to P11.

How to Draw Helix

Draw Right hand Helix on a cylinder of diameter 50mm

The Video shows the step by step method to draw helix on a cylinder.

Step by Step guide to draw Right Hand Helix on a cylinder of 50 mm diameter

1.  Draw front view of the cylinder i. e. rectangle of 50 mm legth and 80 mm height

2.  Draw top of the cylinder below the front view i. e. Circle of diameter 50 mm

3.  Divide the circle into 8 equal sectors and mark the points on the circle as 1, 2,........8.

4.  Divide the rectangle into 8 equal sectors and mark the points as 1', 2',.......... 12'.

5.  Draw vertical line from point 1 on the circle till it meet the line from pont 1' on the front view. Mark this meeting point as P1

6.  Draw vertical line from point 2 on the circle till it meet the line from pont 2' on the front view. Mark this meeting point as P2

7. Repeat this procedure to mark points from P1 to P12.

8. Draw the helix by drawing smooth curve through the points from P0 to P12.

How to Draw ellipse by rectangle method

Draw Ellipse by Rectangle Method

The Video shows the step by step method to draw ellipse by Rectangle method.

Steps to draw ellipse of major axis 100 mm and minor axis 70 mm by rectangle method

1. Draw rectangle of 100 mm x 70 mm and mark it as PQRS

2. Draw 2 axis lines at the centre and mark the intersection points as ABCD

2.  To draw curve in the left top quarter of the rectangle
Divide the line AQ into 4 equal parts and mark it as 1,2,3 & 4
3.  Divide the line AO onto 4 equal parts and mark it as 1', 2', 3' & 4'
4.  From the point C, draw lines C1, C2, and C3.
5.  From point D, draw line through points 1' till it meet the line C1 and mark this intersecting point as P1.
6.   From point D, draw line through points 2' till it meet the line C2 and mark this intersecting point as P2.
7.  Repeat this procedure for C3 and mark the point P3.
8.  Now draw the quarter of the ellipse by joining the points A, P1, P2, P3 and D.
9.  Repeat this procedure in the other quarters of the rectangle to complete the ellipse.
